Saying “the big change comes from the big seat,” Kansas Senate President Ty Masterson is now in the increasingly-crowded field of Republicans running for governor.
Masterson has represented the Andover area for 20 years, first as a member of the Kansas House and since 2009 as a member of the Senate. Masterson is also joining a field of conservatives who share his views on reducing taxes and violent crime, adding jobs and eliminating ventures connected to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Already, the Republican field includes former governor and lieutenant governor Jeff Colyer, current Secretary of State Scott Schwab, current Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt, as well as talk show host Doug Billings and data analyst Joy Eakins.
The Democrat field, meanwhile, has one announced candidate in Kansas Senator Cindy Holscher.
All are seeking to follow Democrat Laura Kelly, who ends her second term next year and is ineligible for a third term.
