Now that rain is out of the forecast, at least through the middle of the coming week, oppressive heat will now be the main cause for concern weather-wise.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Lyon and most surrounding counties from 1 pm Sunday to 8 pm Monday affecting Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties. The warning comes with air temperatures expected to reach near 100 degrees Sunday afternoon, with heat index readings up to 110 possible.
Similar conditions will follow Monday and Tuesday, with highs also expected to reach the upper 90s before our next chance of showers and storms rolls into the area Wednesday, bringing cooler temperatures in the upper 80s through the following weekend.
The heat follows two days of moderate to heavy rainfall, which brought scattered rain totals to the area, including 1.7 inches to the KVOE Studios as of Saturday morning.
