Sticky conditions remain in effect areawide through at least Wednesday afternoon before some major — and welcome — changes affect the KVOE listening area.
High temperatures climbed to 96 Tuesday with a peak heat index of 104. Air temperatures should be near 100 degrees Tuesday with heat index readings as high as 104, so a heat advisory continues areawide until 8 pm Tuesday. Wednesday will have high temperatures in the low 90s and peak heat index readings again around 103.
Wednesday’s weather includes slight chances of thunderstorms, which actually begin Tuesday night and continue all the way through the upcoming weekend. The storms also herald a big-time cooldown for the area as high temperatures will be in the low 80s Thursday and possibly in the upper 70s for Friday and Saturday. At this time, severe weather is not expected.
While the heat continues, residents will still need to hydrate with water or sports drinks, wear light and loose-fitting clothing and do their best to adjust outdoor work or project schedules. We’ll have perspective on the summertime work of Abundant Harvest, Emporia Rescue Mission and Shiloh Home of Hope through Director Josh Graves on KVOE’s Newsmaker 2 segment at 8:20 am Tuesday.
