It is go time for Battle of the Badges 2025.
Hours are 12-6 pm Wednesday and Thursday, followed by 8 am to 2 pm Friday — all at Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church. On KVOE’s Talk of Emporia recently, Lyon County Emergency Communications Director Roxanne Van Gundy says this helps to bring more attention to the need for blood.
Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Manager Jill Cook says it’s an enjoyable experience for all involved.
Emporia Police Sgt Dominick Vortherms says it’s a great way for public service agencies to interact with the community.
On KVOE’s Morning Show this month, Emporia Fire Marshal Stephen Beemer says it helps to recharge those involved.
As usual, the blood drive helps to increase blood supplies, which are now typically in urgent or critical need. It also raises awareness of the need for blood and it gives the participating agencies — Emporia Police, Emporia Fire, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and Lyon County Emergency Management — a way to both highlight their partnerships in critical situations and provide an opportunity for some good-natured competition.
Appointments are preferred through redcrossblood.org, the Red Cross Blood Donor app using the sponsor code Emporia, or by calling 800-RED-CROSS. Walk-ins are accepted.
