Sentencing has been delayed for an Emporia man who reached a plea agreement on charges of child sex abuse in Wichita earlier this year.
John Robert Burton was originally set for sentencing Thursday, but the hearing was pushed to Sept. 17 by Sedgwick County Judge Jeff Goering.
Burton was originally charged with single counts of rape and aggravated indecent liberties after alleged activity with a child under the age of 14 when he was arrested in June 2023. Burton pleaded no contest to aggravated indecent liberties right before jury trial was supposed to start. The rape count was dismissed.
