With classes starting over the next three weeks, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is reminding parents of an app it uses to help with child safety.
The Sheriff’s Office has been using the OffenderWatch system for several years as a way to “manage” the county’s offenders. The Sheriff’s Office also says the app has a special family safety section with several items of note for parents, including:
*An interactive map showing a family’s location and nearby residences of sex offenders
*A searchable registry by address
*Offender profiles
*Notifications for new offenders in a neighborhood
*Ability to monitor a child’s location
*Ability to call local law enforcement in cases of emergencies
*Tips for talking with children about sex offenders
