As WeACT’s performance schedule heats up, leadership is “thrilled” to resume a partnership with the Emporia Arts Council.
Board member Lucas Perez-Leahy tells KVOE News the partnership lets WeACT rent the Emporia Granada Theatre for its murder mystery performance in October. If all goes well, the rental agreement could extend into 2026 performances.
Perez-Leahy also says says WeACT’s status as a 501(c)3 nonprofit comes at a good time because it helps to strengthen the volunteer community group as a whole. There is also new engagement with the community.
WeACT branched away from the Arts Council and gained a location partnership with the Granada while the theater was a separate entity from the Arts Council. The landscape changed last fall when the Arts Council agreed to manage the theater. Perez-Leahy says things were “not strategically aligned” for WeACT and the Arts Council when they ended their prior relationship, but he says he has a solid relationship with Arts Council Director Dawn Young and any past concerns are “water under the bridge.”
Perez-Leahy will join KVOE’s Newsmaker 3 segment at 8:40 am Tuesday with more information about the upcoming schedule, including auditions.
