A new preliminary hearing date has been scheduled in a Lyon County murder case.
On Friday, Judge Jeff Larson approved a defense motion to continue the hearing and set Oct. 10 as the new date as court proceedings develop against Alexei Perez-Ricardo. Judge Larson also decided to allow prosecution witness Dr. Maneesha Panday to testify via Zoom. There is currently no record on the Kansas District Court Public Access Portal on whether Lyon County Attorney Amy Aranda’s motion to have additional witnesses endorsed was approved.
Perez-Ricardo, age 36 of Emporia, is accused of killing 57-year-old Adolfo Viniegra, initially listed as 62-year-old Raul Reyes, in late May following an alleged disturbance. He is officially charged with second-degree murder and aggravated battery in Viniegra’s murder. Perez-Ricardo is also charged with aggravated robbery after an alleged incident involving Joseph Alfred Rodriguez. Further details about the charges and the connections between the listed individuals are pending.
Bond has been set at $250,000. Perez-Ricardo also has to surrender his passport and submit to GPS tracking.
