10:30 am Sunday: Overnight storms and moderate to heavy rainfall bring moderate rain totals to KVOE listening area Sunday; Flood watch remains in effect for entire area through Monday
A flood watch remains in effect for the KVOE listening area following a round of thunderstorms overnight Sunday, with more activity possible as the work week begins.
Thunderstorms pushed their way into the KVOE listening area around 2 am Sunday and continued off and on through the early to mid-morning hours, bringing moderate to heavy rainfall with them. At the KVOE studios, we received 1.5 inches of precipitation.
Other totals:
Country Club Heights: 1.3 inches
Olpe Blacksmith Shop: 1.3 inches
Neosho Rapids: 1.5 inches
More thunderstorms are possible across the area between the afternoon and evening hours Sunday, with a marginal risk in place areawide for severe storm activity. Storms could bring 60 mph wind gusts, small hail and more heavy rainfall, which has also led to a moderate flooding risk for the area, prompting an area-wide flood watch to remain in place until Monday morning.
Chances of showers and storms will remain in the forecast through midweek before we start to see drier, sunny conditions into the upcoming weekend. One upside to the stormy conditions is that they will also bring cooler temperatures in the mid to upper 80s through Wednesday before we start to see yet another warmup with high temperatures in the low to mid 90s Thursday through Saturday.
