The Wall That Heals is just about here.
The scale replica of the Vietnam War Memorial will have a large procession Tuesday from Lebo to Emporia. Organizer Clay Childs is now expecting over 200 motorcycles and classic vehicles will accompany the wall, leaving Lebo around noon and getting to Emporia’s American Legion Post 5 around 12:30 pm. Organizers are still asking residents to bring flags to US Highway 50 to welcome the wall to town. Richelle Birk says the goal is to surpass all expectations from the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund.
Childs also encourages people to take tours of both the wall and the mobile education center.
Ed Rathke wants everybody to attend.
Once the wall is in Emporia on Tuesday, there will be a brief welcome activity. Wednesday is set-up day. Even though there are a lot of volunteers already signed up, organizers are asking specifically for help with the set-up process. The wall be available for public viewing on a 24-7 basis from Thursday through Sunday. Parking will be in the Sunset Plaza lots immediately south of the wall display.
