One of two suspects in an injury crash allegedly due to street racing near downtown Emporia last week is now officially a defendant.
Patricio Morales, age 31, has been charged with two counts of aggravated battery following the crash Thursday in the 300 block of East Sixth. Morales has also been charged with single counts of reckless driving and racing on highways.
A juvenile allegedly involved in a separate car has not been charged at this time.
Emporia Police have accused both Morales and the juvenile of being involved in a race or chase just before 5 pm Thursday when Morales’ car T-boned another car driven by Ahmad Scott of Emporia. Scott and a passenger, Malik Dorsey were taken to Newman Regional Health with unspecified injuries.
Morales’ first court appearance is Aug. 20 in Lyon County District Court.
