Two Coffey County communities have received state grant funds for community development projects.
*Burlington’s restoration project for the Flint Hills Plaza Theatre gets $37,000. The goal is to have movies, live performances, events and other community activities in the renovated space
*LeRoy’s Brownsfield Market gets $25,000. Funds are designed to “ensure structural integrity and safety” as part of ongoing work towards a community grocery store
Funds come from the Kansas Department of Commerce’s Emergency Historic Asset Lifeline, or E-HEAL program — which offers grant funds to projects that “show potential as economic drivers in Kansas communities.” Numerous area communities, including Emporia, Admire, Council Grove, Eureka, LeRoy, Madison, Matfield Green, Osage City and Strong City have received HEAL funds in prior announcements.
