USD 251 North Lyon County’s budget discussion has several components Wednesday evening.
Board members will discuss the 2025-26 budget, but they also have several other documents as as part of the overall discussion, including the ongoing building needs assessment and state assessment review. Board members may approve a special budget hearing Sept. 10 as part of their business Wednesday.
Separately, board members will continue their discussions on capital outlay matters, including the district’s five-year outlay plan. Finances and legislative matters will be discussed as well.
The meeting is at 6 pm at the board office in Americus.
This comes as the district continues engaging with patrons districtwide when it comes to facility matters. The district recently had a special engagement session at Northern Heights High School, and Strategic Planning Committee member Jessica Kellison says there has been one underlying theme as the district takes another look at how it should proceed.
This conversation continues work on facility needs after the Strategic Planning Committee was first appointed two years ago. Superintendent Bob Blair says a lot of background information has been developed over that time.
The committee is discussing whether to hold another community engagement event or perhaps create a community survey. Kellison says the committee’s goal is to make sure any plans that develop are best for the district.
The current effort follows three separate votes on facility matters last decade, two of which involved a new K-12 campus and a third involving a new K-8 building. None of the three passed.
Blair wants to reach everybody in the district with this current discussion, even those who don’t have students currently in district schools. He also says there is a lot of interest in how the district proceeds.
More information will be available on the district’s website, usd251.org.
