It’s been full steam ahead for new Interim Assistant Superintendent of Business Operations for USD 253 Emporia, Joshua Swartz since he assumed his new role at the start of the month.
Although he was officially hired back in July, Swartz was given until August 1 to become acclimated to his new home in Emporia, a place he says he is settling into very well, as he mentioned during an interview with KVOE News on Wednesday.
That said, Swartz stepped into his new roll at a pivotal time for the district, right in the middle of the budgeting process. He tells KVOE News the pace has been slightly rough:
That said, Swartz tells KVOE News the work itself is very comfortable for him.
Following approval of his hiring last month, KVOE News spoke to USD 253 Superintendent Dr. David McGehee regarding Swartz’s appointment, specifically the interim tag that came with it. McGehee stated the interim title was simply a formality and the job was Swartz’s, “If he earns it.” While speaking with Swartz Wednesday, KVOE News asked what, in his opinion, would constitute earning the permanent title.
His response was, “Just do the job.”
Swartz comes to Emporia after serving as Superintendent for USD 361 Chapparral Schools, replacing Pam Stranathan, who resigned the position after two years with the district. Stranathan is now serving as the Executive Director for Business Operations in the USD 501 Topeka School District.
