Emporia city commissioners have budgets on their minds as they get ready for meetings Wednesday.
The study meeting will focus on budget development as a whole, while the action meeting preceding the study session will look specifically at the July budget.
Before the monthly budget conversation, city commissioners may approve a parcel type change for Industrial Park IV from Lyon County Industrial Flex to Emporia Industrial Flex. They could also approve a six-month extension request for renovations to the former Emporia Gazette headquarters to Feb. 28, 2026, as part of the Gazette Collective redesign project. They could also approve the Kansas Department of Transportation financial award for the fiscal 2028 City Connecting Link Improvement Project involving US Highway 50 milling and overlay between Prairie and Neosho.
An executive session on legal matters is also planned.
The action meeting starts at 11 am Wednesday at the Municipal Court Room. The study meeting follows at White Auditorium City Conference Room 1AB.
Separately, city commissioners have announced a special meeting next week as the city considers authorizing both a funding application and related agreements for significant upgrades to the BeBauge Family Sports Complex. The meeting will be at 11 am Aug. 27 at the Municipal Court Room.
