Not surprisingly, there have been a number of questions to city officials as residents and customers adjust to a new utility billing system.
City Finance Director Janet Harrouf says a lot of those questions dealt with the amounts due, and with good reason. The city had a 38-day billing period as opposed to the standard 30-day period as the old system was taken offline and the new system was installed and calibrated.
Harrouf says there are certain changes that are readily apparent as bills go out to customers this month.
Harrouf also says there has been an adjustment period for city staff. The new system connects to other city systems, like finances and human resources payroll systems. “Most everything” is different now, but Harrouf says the goal is to make things easier for customers and city officials alike.
Residents can still go to the Utility Billing office to pay. They can also pay by phone, pay online or pay at the city parking lot drop box across West Fifth from the billing office.
Customers with questions can call the Utility Billing Office at 620-343-4244 or email utilities@emporiaks.gov. Customers can also visit emporiaks.gov/utilitybillpay to pay their bills online.
