The United Way of the Flint Hills officially begins the public portion of its annual fundraising campaign later Thursday.
On KVOE’s On-Air Chat on Wednesday, Executive Director Daphne Mertens said there will be a lot of activities at the Lyon County History Center’s third floor as part of the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours event.
Activities will be from 5-7 pm.
The United Way is definitely ramping up its public campaign work at this time with Yahaira Ibarra as this year’s drive chair, but things are also getting busy for staff behind the scenes, both in and out of the office.
The United Way is overlapping the campaign kickoff with its first-ever Day of Giving effort through Sept. 9. A key part of this effort is a drawing for two tickets and a parking pass for the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl rematch with the Philadelphia Eagles at Arrowhead Stadium on Sept. 14. All donations to the Day of Giving effort go into the drawing, which will take place on Facebook Live.
More information about the campaign and other local United Way operations is available online at unitedwayoftheflinthills.org and on the agency’s social media platforms. The United Way of the Flint Hills has over 20 Community Partners in Lyon, Chase, Coffey, Greenwood, Morris, Osage, Wabaunsee and Woodson counties.
