One of the two defendants in a street racing injury crash incident earlier this month is starting early court processes at the Lyon County Courthouse.
Patricio Morales, age 31, had his first appearance Wednesday and was set for a preliminary hearing Sept. 24.
Morales and a juvenile, Fernando Rodriguez-Williams, are both charged with aggravated battery after an alleged street racing incident in the 300 block of East Sixth. Morales and Rodriguez-Williams were allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed in the 300 block of East Sixth when Morales’ car broadsided another car driven by Ahmad Scott of Emporia. Scott and a passenger, Malik Dorsey were taken to Newman Regional Health with unspecified injuries. Morales was arrested shortly after the incident, while Rodriguez-Williams allegedly fled the scene and was arrested later.
Besides aggravated battery, Morales is also charged with reckless driving and racing on highways.
