A defendant in a Lyon County attempted arson case has been deemed as not competent to stand trial, although there is a chance court proceedings may resume later.
On Wednesday, Lyon County District Court Judge Jeff Larson deemed Uriel Sevilla as not competent after reviewing Sevilla’s file, receiving evidence and hearing statements from both prosecutors and defense attorneys. With that in mind, Larson ordered Sevilla to be committed to the Larned State Security Hospital or its designee for a treatment period of up to 90 days. Larned’s chief medical officer will then file a report determining whether Sevilla is competent or, if competency is not achieved, perspective on whether Sevilla can be competent to stand trial “in the foreseeable future.”
Sevilla was arrested shortly after a fire inside 10 West Grill + Dive Bar on July 18. He remains charged with attempted aggravated arson, aggravated assault and criminal use of explosives.
