A Lyon County criminal case starting with charges of child rape is ending with a sentence of probation after a plea agreement on lesser charges reached earlier this year.
On Friday, Judge Laura Miser sentenced Erik Alvarez to 24 months probation with an underlying prison term of 19 months. Alvarez also has to follow all statutory requirements of the Kansas Sex Offender Registration Act.
Alvarez was originally charged in April 2024 with one rape count after an alleged incident with a then-14-year-old in January 2021. In July, Alvarez tendered an Alford plea on one count of indecent solicitation — meaning he proclaims his innocence but acknowledges enough evidence to convict if the case had gone to trial.
