It’s fall vaccination season.
Several pharmacies and medical facilities are starting to get their flu shots in stock, including CareArc. Emergency Preparedness Coordinator Dennis Applegarth says residents can start getting their flu shots at this time. Also, the annual drive-thru flu shot clinic is Oct. 3, and Applegarth says the format and traffic flow from past years will be the case again in October.
Applegarth also doesn’t expect any changes in how the vaccines are produced.
Applegarth says there is one adjustment from past policy: healthy adults under age 50 can ask their physicians for at-home nasal doses, although the availability of those at-home vaccinations is unclear.
On the same general vaccination topic, Applegarth says there is still a concern about measles — even though the Kansas Department of Health and Environment has said the regional outbreak in southwest and south-central Kansas is officially over.
And Applegarth is among the health officials tracking the latest variant of COVID-19.
