Numerous categories of street construction are ongoing as fall approaches in Emporia.
The city has had Street Rehab, Street Resurfacing and Concrete Street Repair underway for several months. City Engineer Jim Ubert says some of the highlights with Concrete Street Repair have been on Weaver Street near Sixth — especially because what the recent work represents for future work.
Weaver is “beat up” when it comes to large — and frequent — heavy truck loads.
There has also been work on 18th near Hammond and in the Becker Addition as part of a 10-location list for Concrete Street Repair, which is now set for completion by Halloween.
Street Rehab and Street Resurfacing have had over 20 total work zones through the summer. Street Rehab is almost done with pavement markings to take place through mid-September, while Street Resurfacing should be done by Halloween.
Meanwhile, the Southeast Transmission waterline replacement project has been working southward since it got started earlier this summer. Ubert says there have been several areas of construction as part of the overall effort.
Boring under West Sixth or US Highway 50 gets underway in earnest this week.
Ubert also says work likely won’t take a significant break for the winter months.
