Several area bridge projects are moving forward with state and/or federal funding assistance after an announcement Thursday.
Greenwood County is getting $1.2 million as part of work on 100th Street over a Fall River tributary near Climax as part of the 2026 Kansas Local Bridge Improvement Program. The county is adding 5 percent or over $142,000.
Two other projects fall into the 2027 Off-System Bridge Program category. Chase County receives $1.1 million for work on YY Road over a Jacob Creek tributary near Saffordville, contributing over $133,000 or over 11 percent of the total cost. Osage County gets $1 million for work on South Fisher Road over a Plum Creek tributary near Burlingame. Osage County is contributing almost $125,000 or nearly 12 percent.
Kansas Governor Laura Kelly and Transportation Secretary Calvin Reed say nearly 30 local and off-system projects are splitting over $40 million in state and federal funding with this announcement. The Local Bridge Improvement Project is replacing 11 bridges and removing four other “deficient” bridges. The Off-System Bridge Program is for bridge work involving structures not on the federal-aid system.
