A new piece of equipment is coming to North Lyon County Fire District 2, thanks in part to a recent donation from the Americus Masonic Lodge.
Monday, during the fire district’s regular meeting, members of the lodge presented personnel with a $5,000 grant, which will be used to help purchase a new fire suppression system for district trucks, according to Chief Tharon Mott.
Mott says this equipment will bring added safety and efficiency to the department, which is entirely volunteer-based.
Mott says the grant will not fund 100 percent of the purchase; however, it is a welcome and appreciated gift. Americus Masonic Lodge Tyler (Outer Guard) and nearly 50-year member Wayne Lee say they had several options for where to donate their funds; however, they ultimately chose the fire district for a few key reasons.
First, Lee says the district was in the greatest need for assistance and second, the district and lodge’s core missions of serving all of Northern Lyon County were perfectly aligned.
Fire District 2’s service area runs east to west from Road U to Road A and north to south from Road 310 to Road 400, covering Allen, Admire and Bushong. In addition to this, the district also has mutual aid agreements with several other area departments, including Emporia.
According to Mott, the district currently has 20 active members.
