Flint Hills Technical College’s premiere culinary competition is being put on pause until further notice.
In a news release Tuesday, the College announced it will be postponing the 2025 edition of The Cut. According to FHTC Marketing and Public Relations Manager Ryann Brooks, the decision to postpone the event was made to allow culinary arts students more time to further develop their skills and gain confidence in the culinary arts before placing them into the competition.
Brooks says, “We have an incredibly talented and enthusiastic class of culinary students this year. Many of our students are younger than in previous years, and we want to ensure they have the opportunity to fully develop their techniques and confidence before showcasing their abilities in a competitive setting.”
FHTC Vice President for Advancement Mike Crouch stated in the aforementioned news release “While The Cut has been a wonderful showcase for our culinary program, we recognize that each student cohort has unique needs. This year’s focus will be on intensive hands-on learning, mentorship, and preparing our students to excel in their future careers.”
While the Cut has put a particular spotlight on the College’s culinary arts students, it has also provided an opportunity for students in the Multimedia Design department to showcase their skills and abilities as they livestream the competition from start to finish. With the postponement, Brooks says Multimedia Design students will be “redirecting” their time, skills and efforts to other projects for the remainder of the year.
The Cut was scheduled to be held on October 16. A new date for the event has not been announced.
