Emporia’s railroad crossing at Commercial Street is set to be closed early next week. Another local crossing has closed as well.
Lyon County Emergency Communications says the Peyton Street crossing is now closed for unspecified street work. There is currently no estimate on how long the crossing will remain closed.
The Commercial Street crossing will be closed Monday and Tuesday. Drivers are urged to use the Merchant Street crossing during those days.
Separately, City Communications Manager Christine Torrens says work continues on the Southeast Transmission waterline replacement project. The latest evidence of that will be the closure of Seventh and Elm for about two weeks beginning Thursday. That project continues its general southeasterly push from 12th and Garfield to South and Carter over the next year-plus.
