A gas leak outside an Emporia church had Emporia Fire and Kansas Gas investigators busy Wednesday evening.
Emporia Fire Capt. Willie Ward says crews from both entities were called to Calvary Baptist Church, 702 Arundel, with Emporia Fire getting the call around 8:45 pm. Ward says the smell of gas was noticeable as firefighters arrived and Kansas Gas also picked up some gas presence with its equipment.
The leak was outside the church and was confined to a hole already dug. The area has had a lot of construction the past two months as part of the Southeast Transmission waterline replacement project, but an exact cause for the leak has not been announced. No injuries were reported and no evacuations were needed.
