Nearly two full weeks after announcing a search for Herington resident James Cole, authorities are ongoing with their search.
Kansas Missing and Unsolved now lists Cole as missing after the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office and Herington Police Departrment announced the search began Aug. 31. Cole, 24, began using the Flint Hills Nature Trail at Herington and apparently walked east several miles before turning south. Despite searches by law enforcement, a K-9 unit and at least one drone, the trail went cold less than four days after the search began. Cole has family in Emporia but it is still unclear whether he was traveling here when he disappeared. The Council Grove Police Department says authorities believe Cole may have had a handgun with him.
Cole is a white male, 5-foot-11 and 140 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes.
