High temperatures near 90 degrees in mid-September make for an inopportune time to close down the splash pad at Peter Pan Park, but mechanical issues prompted that move Saturday.
City Communications Manager Christine Torrens says the main pump needs repairs, so the the splash pad is now closed until further notice.
High temperatures got to 92 Saturday and should be close to or at 90 degrees through Tuesday.
The city has not given an official date for closing the splash pad for the fall, winter and early spring, but the shutdown typically happens in mid-October.
3 pm Saturday:

According to an alert from City of Emporia Communications Director Christine Torrens, the splash pad located in Peter Pan Park has been closed down for undisclosed repair work. The city will provide updates when available.
