The Annual Kids Night Out event is coming up on Friday as a benefit for the Emporia Salvation Army. It will be from 6:30 to 9:00 pm at 618 Merchant.
Loi Douglas is one of the owners of Leap of Faith, who is putting on the event, and says not only is it a good community event, it is also for a great cause.
The donations are for teenagers, but ages 6-17 are accepted. Douglas says some items teens have received in the past include gift cards, headphones, and anything you think a teen would like. Cost for Kid’s Night Out is $5 for pizza, and bring your own Nerf gun. A big piece of this fundraiser, or giftraiser as Douglas describes it, is the support to the Salvation in town. Douglas explains that community service is a strong value of the Leap of Faith Martial Arts School and provides more details on why supporting the Salvation Army is so important.
Salvation Army Captain Mylie Hadden knows that without the community support for the Salvation Army and their services, including their food pantry, none of the work they do would be possible. Hadden says support from businesses like Leap of Faith is also vital to their success in serving Emporia.
