Vamos a Pescar is coming this weekend. And organizers say it’s going to be a big deal again.
Vamos has been introducing residents, notably those of Hispanic descent, to the joys of fishing now for nearly a decade. Organizer Patricia Saenz-Reyes, a guest on KVOE’s Morning Show earlier this week, says Vamos has resonated with a lot of people.
Fellow organizer Sally Sanchez says there’s a simple reason why the event has become so popular.
KVOE What’s In Outdoors host Phil Taunton sees the community as a whole — not just different groups — come together for the event.
Activities will be from 9 am to 1 pm Saturday at Emporia State University’s Prophet Aquatic Research and Outreach center, including information on fishing techniques, rules and regulations. water safety and different hunting practices like archery. Crafts, hiking and hands-on educational activities are also included.
Vamos a Pescar is a combination effort involving USD 253 Migrant Education, What’s In Outdoors, Hispanics of Today & Tomorrow, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and PAROC.
