Council Grove will be busy over the next week-plus for the 2025 Santa Fe Trail Symposium.
With the schedule, activities are plentiful. Organizer Jan Huston, KVOE’s Newsmaker guest Thursday, says one of the early schedule highlights is a wagon show beginning Friday.
From there, there is the historical Voices of the Wind People historical pageant Sept. Friday and Saturday, a Faith on the Trail event Sunday, bike rides, music, speakers, other activities and a Board of Directors meeting.
The Santa Fe Trail started developing in the early 1820s and pushed west across portions of Lyon, Morris and Osage counties, and — later on — southwest to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Huston says cities along the trail will rotate hosting, so this is the first time Council Grove has hosted since 1998. She says it’s a big deal to host something with this kind of connections to America’s early history.
Registration continues. Cost is $125 for the full symposium and $45 for residents wanting to attend one day’s worth of activities.
