Wabaunsee County deputies say an attempted traffic stop led to an arrest on suspicion of drug-related charges Wednesday.
The Sheriff’s Office says deputies saw a vehicle with a license plate that both didn’t belong to the vehicle in question and had been expired for three years. As deputies began a traffic stop in the 500 block of First in Eskridge, the driver, identified as 55-year-old Alex Thompson of Eskridge, drove for three blocks before stopping at an unspecified residence.
Deputies say Thompson tried to leave the vehicle during the stop, used a cigarette to mask unspecified odors and tried to divert the deputies’ attention during the stop.
Deputies say Thompson was initially found to be driving with a suspended license, expired and improper registration and no valid insurance. However, after the county’s K-9 Luna was called to the scene and gave a positive alert, deputies say they found a small amount of methamphetamine.
Along with the traffic issues, Thompson was arrested on suspicion of felony distribution of narcotics or certain stimulants.
Formal charges are pending.
