The 1-1 Emporia Spartans go on the road to Coffeyville to face Field Kindley on Friday night, hoping to get a win to give the Spartans their best start to a season since 2019. Emporia will look to get the running game early and often with running back Rylan Crowell who has shined through two games with four rushing touchdowns. A big reason why has been the resurgent play of the Spartans offensive line, led by Senior Captain Jose Vargas. He says it’s important to play together and limit mistakes both as an offensive line, but as a team.
A win tonight would give Emporia two wins in a season for the first time since 2022, but Head Coach Daniel Goodman says that a big focus this week has been getting better every day and taking care of the little things. He also knows that you can’t take Field Kindley lightly despite Coffeyville being outscored 110-8 in two games. Here’s Goodman’s message to his team.
Emporia’s defense looks to continue its strong play, as they are allowing just 15 points per game through two games, while the offense is averaging 31 a game after two games.
Pregame coverage begins at 6:30 with kickoff at 7 on KVOE.
