Part of Wednesday was wet. Much of Thursday was wet. Much of the upcoming weekend could be wet as well.
The KVOE studios gained 1.90 inches of rain, mostly in the overnight hours early Thursday but also Wednesday morning and Thursday afternoon. The Emporia Municipal Airport officially got 0.67 inches, although the gauge was offline for several hours Thursday. Rain totals were in the 2-3 inch range in other places in Lyon County like Bushong and near the Emporia Golf Course. The rain washed over several roads, which remain closed at this time:
*Road 150 from N to P
*Road 160 from P to R; from R to S
*Road R from 150 to 170
Forecast verbiage from the National Weather Service says Friday should be dry with highs in the low 80s, but graphics from the Topeka office and Storm Prediction Center indicate a marginal severe weather risk along and west of a line from Council Grove to near Teterville for the late afternoon and early evening hours. Hail up to an inch in diameter and wind gusts up to 60 mph are the concerns.
A decent chance of showers and storms develops after midnight, followed by a good chance of off-and-on showers and storms through the weekend. According to the Weather Service Forecast Points information page, close to an inch of rain is possible through the weekend — and over an inch of rain is possible with more showers and storms between Tuesday and Thursday.
