The Emporia State volleyball team went 2-0 at a non-conference event for the fourth-straight time and pushed their winning streak to nine with two wins on Friday in Oklahoma as part of the MIAA-GAC Crossover. The Lady Hornets bounced back from a dismal first set to take their first match in extra points in a lengthy 11-25, 25-23, 25-21, 15-25, 17-15 over Oklahoma Baptist to start the afternoon. The Bison crushed ESU in the first set leading 14-1 to start the match, but ESU found two tight set wins in a row before falling in a lopsided fourth set. ESU started the fifth 6-1 down before tying the frame at 12-all and pushing in front to claim the win. Nyia Anderson led the way with 15 kills while Mia Frisbie contributed six total blocks.
The Lady Hornets found a sweep in their final non-conference tune up but had to battle in a 25-23, 29-27, 25-20 victory over Southern Nazarene. E-State took the first set with a 4-0 run at the end before surviving a marathon second set by putting away their fourth set point opportunity. The third set was knotted at 15 before the Crimson Storm ran out of gas and ESU took the match. Lavra Krizanic paced the offense with 15 kills. ESU continued running with two setters with Brailee Bogle and Delainee Dexter each orchestrating a potent Lady Hornet attack.
The nine-match winning streak is the longest for ESU since 2009 when the Lady Hornets won 13 in a row. E-State (9-2) opens up MIAA play with their first match at White Auditorium of the season Friday, September 26 when they host #21 Missouri Western. ESU’s only losses of the year have come against top 25 competition.
