An arrest was made following a vehicle crash that heavily damaged the front of an Emporia business on Sixth Avenue Saturday, however, the charges were not related to the accident itself.
According to Emporia Police Sgt. Marcil Hernandez, the accident was reported near Sixth and Sherman just after 3:00 pm, after a westbound 2009 Chevy Impala failed to negotiate a turn off Sixth onto Sherman. The vehicle then proceeded to collide with the building at 545 Sherman owned by Stewardship Home Investors and housing both Stewardship Home Management and Shull Roofing.
According to Seth Morelock of Stewardship, the accident only affected Shull Roofing.
The collision caused extensive damage to the front of the property, and the vehicle had to be towed from the scene of the accident, but no injuries were reported. The preliminary investigation indicates speed may have been the contributing factor to the crash.
The driver of the vehicle, whose name, age and hometown have not yet been released, was arrested following the accident for “unrelated criminal charges,” according to Hernandez. Damage estimates to the building are currently pending.
