Sparklight says it is starting promised upgrades for Emporia customers.
When it held its official ribbon-cutting and rebranding ceremony in late August, Director of Regional Operations Sam McGill said multi-gig speeds were coming by the end of the year as part of a $500,000 project. Sparklight Communications Manager Jamie O’Driscoll says Emporians can expect 6-gigabit speeds by December. O’Driscoll also says customers will have symmetrical upload and download speeds, as well as low latency and unlimited data.
Sparklight says it has invested over $1 billion nationwide over the last three years. It also says the current round of updates set the stage for 10-gig and higher speeds.
Sparklight’s investments come as a competing company, IdeaTek, is installing its infrastructure across town as part of a$14 million investment, offering a 100-percent fiber network, symmetrical upload and download speeds at up to 2.5 gigabits per second, unlimited data and connections without contracts. IdeaTek construction should be done by spring 2026.
