The Emporia State volleyball team turned in a workmanlike performance in a 25-18, 25-17, 25-20 sweep of Newman Thursday at Fugate Gymnasium in Wichita. The Lady Hornets picked up their 12th win in a row and haven’t lost since September 5. Newman made the Lady Hornets work in set one taking a 17-16 lead before the Black & Gold rattled off a 9-1 run to take the set. E-State used another big spurt to blow open a 14-all set after the Jets had tied it up with a 7-2 run. ESU exploded for six in a row and nine of the next 10 points to take control. ESU traded runs back and forth with the Navy & Red in set three but ESU had the last run with four in a row to seal the sweep. Freshman Emma Klett had a career-high 19 kills and was in double figures for her third match of the season to lead the offense while Nyia Anderson chipped in 11 to go along with 16 digs. Boglarka Rady led the defense with 17 digs. ESU (12-2, 3-0 MIAA) returns to action Friday at Pittsburg State.
