A former Wabaunsee County correctional officer is now in custody in Pottawatomie County.
According to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, 48-year-old Jeffery Patrick turned himself into Pottawatomie County authorities at approximately noon Sunday after a warrant was issued for his arrest. Patrick was arrested on a single count of mistreatment of a confined person as part of an investigation that began this past May when the Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s Office contacted KBI for assistance with a correctional officer who reportedly took money from an inmate for personal use on multiple occasions.
According to the KBI, the alleged activity took place between March and May at the Wabaunsee County Detention Center where Patrick was working as a CO. Patrick was terminated from his position back in June. KBI has not said whether or not his termination was related to the investigation.
Formal charges are currently pending. No further information is being released at this time.
