Plans are on track for a new school building at Sacred Heart.
The current facility will celebrate its 100th year of service to students next year, but Principal Curtis Simons says it’s time for a new building. Fundraising for the Building More Than Bricks campaign is approaching the one-year mark next month, and Simons says things are going well for the three-year drive.
The current pace is about 25 percent ahead of schedule, with over 300 families already contributing.
The plan is to connect the new school to the existing parish hall, with the new facility stretching to the northeast of the parish hall, church and rectory.
The existing school will be in use during construction before being razed and turned into a parking lot.
Sacred Heart Rector Father Carter Zielinski is asking parishioners to contribute 3-year pledges of 3 percent of their annual income or a one-time, 3-percent asset gift to the campaign. Residents can also sponsor geotechnological and topographical surveys as well as waterline relocation.
Residents wanting to contribute can go online to shemporia.org/campaign.
Building More Than Bricks comes as the church held its 52nd Mexican Supper on Friday. It also comes with enrollment up 15 percent to 83 students. School officials expect enrollment to top 90 students next year.
