Emporia city commissioners will discuss several aspects of economic development as part of their meeting slate Wednesday.
In their action meeting, commissioners will discuss upcoming improvements to parts of Overlander Road between West Sixth and US Highway 50 as part of a roughly $4 million street resurfacing and bridge project. Commissioners will also discuss a letter of support for Frontier Development Group as Frontier works to renovate the former Kansas Avenue School at 315 South Market into apartments.
Separately, commissioners will discuss potential annexation of nearly 60 acres of property near the Lyon County Transfer Station into the Emporia city limits. This so-called Kretsinger tract is different from one tentatively set to be used by Lyon County for a law enforcement shooting range and training facility, as well as a new home for Emergency Communications .
The study meeting to follow includes a possible letter of support for Evergy’s memorandum of understanding between TerraPower and the Kansas Department of Commerce for additional nuclear power, including the chance of a new complementary power plant at Wolf Creek.
The action session begins at 11 am at the Municipal Court Room. The study meeting follows at White Auditorium City Conference Room 1AB.
City commissioners are meeting shortly after the Regional Development Association of East Central Kansas has its monthly meeting, which will be at 7 am at Trusler Business Center. Board members will consider a letter of support for Evergy’s MOU with TerraPower and the Department of Commerce. There is no confirmation on whether the board will address the longstanding vacancy for permanent president, now more than 18 months after the resignation of Chuck Scott, but there is an executive session planned for currently unspecified matters.
