Spooky season is definitely upon us.
The Neosho Rapids Haunted House is celebrating its 33rd year with activities Saturday and next weekend. Organizer Tom Riley says the trip starts with a hayrack ride originating at the Neosho Rapids Community Building.
Tickets are $11 each and are cash only. Sales go from 6:30-10 pm. Activities will also involve a kids trailer with candy and coloring.
The haunted house and hayrack ride are organized by the Neosho Rapids Lions Club, Neosho Rapids Parks and Projects committees and Hartford-Neosho Rapids Fire District 5. Proceeds go towards USD 252 Southern Lyon County Honor Flight, the Neosho Rapids Elementary PTO and other community activities.
Meanwhile, the Chase County Old School Development District has its fifth annual haunted house Friday and Saturday at the Cottonwood Falls Community Building. Organizer Lee Anne Coester says the building will be full of frights.
Activities in Cottonwood Falls also include fortune telling, s’mores and a bonfire. Proceeds support new heating and air conditioning for the Old School Community Center.
If the unplanned paranormal is your thing, and you have already reserved your spot, Flint Hills Paranormal has an investigation of the Flint Hills Event Center, long known as Admire Elementary. The group says this is the first-ever public paranormal investigation of the old school building, and the event is sold out. Participants are asked to bring a working flashlight and closed-toed shoes.
