The Emporia State soccer team built a 2-0 lead early in the second half but couldn’t hold it settling for a 2-2 tie with Rogers State at the ESU Pitch on Friday. The teams combined for a scoreless first half with few scoring opportunities before the Lady Hornets took the lead less than five minutes into the second on a Megan Kephart shot on an assist from Ella Favot. Favot connected with Kephart again for another goal 14 minutes later, but the Hillcats scored less than three minutes after that and then found the tying tally with less than seven minutes to play in the match. Head coach Jane Grimley-Gunn said she hoped it was a result that would motivate her team.
Kephart credited her teammates for her two goals.
Kephart now has four scores on the year. E-State is unbeaten in their last seven matches but has drawn ties in two of their last three. ESU (7-3-2, 4-0-2 MIAA) returns to action Sunday hosting Northeastern State at 1:00 p.m.
