The Emporia State soccer team couldn’t overcome a two-goal deficit in a 2-1 loss to Northeastern State at the ESU Pitch on Sunday. The Lady Hornets conceded a goal less than five minutes in to the match and again less than four minutes into the second half. Hailey Gancarz picked up her third score of the season later in the frame, but a late shot by Ruby Ryan deflected off the post with less than two minutes remaining to seal ESU’s fate. The Lady Hornets outshot the RiverHawks 22-8 in the game and had three deflect off the pipes. Megan Kephart picked up her fifth assist for the Black & Gold. Head coach Jane Grimley-Gunn expects her squad to bounce back from the loss.
The loss snapped a seven-match unbeaten streak for the Lady Hornets and was their first loss since a September 19 setback at Regis. ESU (7-4-2, 4-1-2 MIAA) continues a four-match homestand Friday against Nebraska-Kearney. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. at the ESU Pitch.
