One person was hurt and hospitalized after a wreck in southeast Lyon County on Wednesday.
The wreck was reported in the 1900 block of Road 60 shortly before 2:30 pm. Lyon County Undersheriff John Koelsch says the driver tried to miss a deer, only to go off the road and stop in a creek bed.
The woman’s name has not been released. She was taken to Newman Regional Health for treatment.
This is entering the time of year where vehicle-deer collisions are more prevalent, especially at dawn and dusk. The Kansas Highway Patrol, Kansas Department of Transportation, Kansas Turnpike Authority, AAA Kansas and Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks tell drivers to use seatbelts, be alert, slow down in areas where deer traffic is high and never swerve to avoid a deer.
