Additional details have been released following a multi-agency high-speed chase that developed in Emporia Wednesday evening.
According to Emporia Police Captain Ray Mattas, Emporia Police Officers attempted to stop a white Chevrolet Tahoe in the 1200 block of East 12th Avenue around 9:15 pm due to suspicion that the driver, later identified as 38-year-old Brandon E. Mangus of Wichita, may have been operating the vehicle while intoxicated. Mangus reportedly failed to comply and a pursuit ensued through the northeast and east-central areas of Emporia and continuing north on Kansas Highway 99 into Lyon County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol and Lyon County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the pursuit and managed to bring it to a safe conclusion by using stop sticks to deflate all four tires of the Tahoe. Mangus was then arrested and taken to the Lyon County Jail without further incident on suspicion of felony flee and elude, reckless driving, and driving while suspended.
Formal charges are pending at last word.
5:30 am Thursday: Multi-agency pursuit leads to arrest north of Emporia
Several law enforcement agencies were apparently involved in a high-speed pursuit ending with an arrest after dark Wednesday.
Emporia Police officers say they helped the Kansas Highway Patrol with a chase that went through different parts of Emporia before eventually going out of the city. Officers also say Lyon County deputies successfully deployed stop sticks at an unlisted location, with an arrest following in north Lyon County.
Details from the Kansas Highway Patrol are currently pending. Troopers are not currently confirming whether they used an aircraft as part of a connected search.
Law enforcement is currently not confirming the identity of the person arrested, although the Lyon County jail roster indicates 38-year-old Brandon Mangus of Wichita as arrested shortly before 10:30 pm on suspicion of flee and elude and driving with a canceled, suspended or revoked license.
