The Drug Enforcement Administration’s St Louis Division is getting ready for its annual National Prescription Drug Take Back Day this weekend.
Residents with unused, unneeded and old prescriptions can take those medications to participating locations. Areawide, the only official drop-off location is the Osage County Sheriff’s Office in Lyndon.
Residents locally can take their medications to any pharmacy willing to take the drugs at any time for safe disposal.
All medications brought in through this program are incinerated by the Drug Enforcement Agency. The goal is to reduce the availability of these drugs for illegal purposes and also to reduce any negative impact the medications can have on water supplies.
The program was established in 2010. More information is available online at the DEA’s special information page at dea.gov/takebackday.
