Emporia boys soccer sent out their seniors in fashion, coming from behind to beat Junction City 2-1 on Thursday night.
It was a back and forth game with Emporia controlling possession but the Blue Jays were dangerous on counterattacks on the wings in the first half. It remained 0-0 at halftime, but Junction City came out with energy early in the 2nd and scored to make it 1-0. Emporia quickly answered with a penalty kick from Kevin Magana to tie it at 1-1. A big leaping save by Braylon File kept it 1-1 and Emporia got the game winner late in 2nd half from Brayden Sailer to make it 2-1 Spartans.
Sailer was happy with the win and credited his teammates for making it happen.
File was called upon to make saves all night for the Spartans and says it was a satisfying team win.
Emporia Head Coach Victor Ibarra credits Junction City for being a good and experienced team, but says he feels his team played well but says his team can execute even better.
Emporia will have a regional match that will be announced at a later time.
