The Emporia Spartans football team looks for a major upset as the 2-5 Spartans travel to face the 5-2 Junction City Blue Jays on their Senior Night. The Spartans raced out to a 2-1 start under first year Head Coach Daniel Goodman, Garrett Leblanc has starred at defensive back for the Spartans and Leblanc credits coach Goodman for helping the team remain confident during the current 4-game losing streak.
Emporia has struggled to get their offense going as of late, going scoreless their last two and a half games. A part of that has been the Spartans missing key players for significant portions of the season, including Rylan Crowell and Micah Gray. Emporia will be out a handful of starters again on Friday night, but Coach Goodman says there are no excuses, they know they have to execute better as a team.
The Blue Jays are ranked 3rd in 6A this week, coming off of a 35-20 win over Washburn Rural last week. The Spartans look to contain an offense led by veteran quarterback Conrad Gomez who has 19 passing touchdowns and over 1400 yards passing. Lavell Autry has been a big receiving threat for the Blue Jays, with 41 receptions for 604 yards and eight touchdowns.
Emporia at Junction City coverage begins at 6:30 with kickoff at 7 on Mix 104.9.
